Why test medical air plant?

Medical gases are medicines. On-site produced medical gases such as medical air and oxygen (from PSA) are not required to undergo the same rigorous QC testing as bottled gases. However, all plant may produce out-of-specification gases from time to time.

It is essential that all on-site generated gases are tested by a QC (MGPS) on a regular and frequent basis in order to protect patients, pipelines and equipment connected to the systems. HTM02 recommends that all medical air plant be tested on at least a quarterly basis. These tests will help to ensure safe supply of gases and provide documentary evidence in the event of litigation.
